Understanding the Subtle System

Understanding the Subtle System: Pathway to Inner Harmony

Your Pathway to Inner Harmony

Beginning this transformative journey requires a foundational understanding of the Subtle System. Understanding the Subtle System unlocks the door to true Self-Realisation, connecting with the deep, subtle forces that shape every aspect of one's being. Here, you’ll find an introductory glimpse of the Subtle System, with a deeper, more profound exploration waiting in Steps 2 and 3.

The Structure of the Subtle System

Our spiritual system is a network of thousands of energy pathways centred around vital points known as chakras, which are Sanskrit for "wheels."

The core of this system includes three main energy channels, called Nadis, and seven primary chakras along the central channel. Together, they create a harmonious flow of energy that supports every aspect of our being.

The Awaken Meditation gently guides the dormant Kundalini energy to rise, initiating the experience of Self-Realisation. This awakening purifies and balances the chakras, allowing their innate qualities to emerge naturally and effortlessly within you.

Kundalini – The Inner Mother Principle

In Sanskrit, "Kundalini" combines "Kundal," meaning coiled energy, with "Ini," denoting the feminine aspect. Your inner Mother Principle, Kundalini, rests coiled in the sacrum bone at the base of the spine. This dormant energy represents the potential for profound spiritual transformation.

As Kundalini rises and unites with the inner spirit, which embodies the masculine principle, a state of unity—true yoga—is achieved. You don’t need complex poses to experience this union; sit comfortably in meditation wherever you are.

Chakras – Gateways to Inner Balance

The chakras are our gateways to inner harmony. They govern various aspects of our physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual selves. In modern terms, these energy centres align with nerve plexuses along the spine. Each chakra vibrates with a unique quality; when awakened, these qualities bring inner beauty and balance.

Understanding the Subtle System will help you see how chakras govern various aspects of physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

During deep, silent meditation, known in Sanskrit Nirvichara (thoughtless awareness), Kundalini energy activates these qualities. It then integrates them into your persona, fostering harmony, clarity, and spiritual awareness.

Qualities of the Chakras

The human subtle system comprises 21 chakras distributed across three nadis: the central channel (Sushumna Nadi), the left channel (Ida Nadi), and the right channel (Pingala Nadi). Together, these chakras foster spiritual, emotional, and energetic balance.

The Seven Primary Chakras of the Central Channel

The chakras of the Sushumna Nadi form the core of spiritual ascent, bridging physical and spiritual realms. Each holds universal and indestructible qualities:

  1. Mooladhara (Root Chakra): Innocence and wisdom
  2. Swadisthana (Sacral Chakra): Creativity and inspiration
  3. Nabhi (Manipura/ Solar Plexus Chakra): Peace, generosity, and evolution
  4. Anahata (Heart Chakra): Love, compassion, and fearlessness
  5. Vishuddhi (Throat Chakra): Collectivity, diplomacy, and detachment
  6. Agnya (Third Eye Chakra): Forgiveness and humility
  7. Sahasrara (Crown Chakra): Integration and divine connection

Sub-Chakras of the Left and Right Channels

Sub-chakras along the Ida and Pingala Nadis complement the central channel, reflecting feminine and masculine energies:

  • Ida Nadi (Left Channel): Associated with the moon, nurturing and introspective qualities emphasise compassion, intuition, and memory.
  • Pingala Nadi (Right Channel): Associated with the sun, dynamic qualities promote action, determination, and focus.

These nadis create balance, with the central channel offering the path to self-realisation. Awakening all 21 chakras harmonises innocence, creativity, peace, love, forgiveness, and divine connection, fostering holistic growth.

Awakening to the Divine

This is the express journey of Self-Realisation, leading to tangible and naturally transformative spiritual growth. When Kundalini awakens, it connects you to the source—God, the Creator—allowing the pure qualities of the chakras to manifest effortlessly.

Through daily meditation, you experience humility, compassion, and interconnectedness while becoming more dynamic, creative, and confident. This natural transformation radiates peace and harmony within you and to those around you.
